doweshowbellyad=0; Sanjay Leela Bhansali. (TOI Photo)Sanjay Leela Bhansali is at it again, giving shape to yet another love story with an unhappy ending. This time, its a French opera, to be performed at Paris Theatre du Chatelet. Hes directing Albert Roussels Padmavati, the story of the queen of Chittor, who gives up her life to preserve love and dignity.
The pathos never seems to leave him, does it? Whats wrong with sadness? Sanjay asks from Paris, adding, But youre right, I think Ill make a happy love story now. Why this sudden change of heart? Are you referring to Vaibhavi? he laughs.
Well, as I said, Im ready to move on to happy love stories now! That should tell you everything. But no marriage date has been fixed yet. I am enjoying my relationship with her moment to moment. There is no commitment yet. But I live in hope. If a commitment does lie ahead, it will happen. We will let everyone know the date then.Back to his opera. Parlez-vous Francais? No, I dont know French at all. But Im working with interpreters. Besides, most of the actors and others know some broken English, he says. And will it be larger than life, like all his productions? All my demands are being met. I asked for a tiger on stage, and got a trained tiger. I asked for elephants and got them on stage. Im doing an opera probably once in my lifetime, so Im going all out. Theres a 100-member orchestra and a 60-member choir too, Sanjay laughs.
